Name ...................................................................................................................... Post Code .................................................. Bea is a beautiful miniature Shetland pony found in a state of heartbreaking neglect. Poor Bea had nowhere to live; her time had run out and she was going to market. Fortunately Bea was rescued in late 2015 and gifted to Cheshire Dogs’ Home as we had space available that couldn’t be used. She is a very popular resident who is adored by staff, volunteers and visitors. This sweet natured little pony is happy and settled in her forever home with us where she receives all the love, care and attention she needs for a happy, healthy life. Bea has been a great asset to the dogs and the Dogs’ Home. Not only does she attract passersby into the Home which has meant more dogs have found a home, she is also an asset with regards to training as she has helped some of our difficult dogs with behavioural issues get used to livestock which for a rural Dogs’ Home like Cheshire Dogs’ Home is invaluable. Many people stop and chat when she is out and about for her daily exercise. People find it very funny that we have a pony the size of a dog. Bea has brought her own set of volunteers who fundraise for her and the dogs. Bea has also enabled volunteers who find working with the dogs too strenuous a way to continue volunteering their time with us. Bea is required to self-fund through donations of money or items to her, for example her stable has been donated to her by a volunteer and her fencing was put up by a team of volunteers. In addition to being in a state of emotional distress when she arrived at Cheshire Dogs’ Home, Bea was also in a poor physical condition. In April 2016, the vet started her yearly vaccination and worming programmes. Bea sees the farrier every 8 weeks and has her teeth done every 6 months. During June 2016 the staff and volunteers noticed that Bea was not losing the weight round her tummy and they were excited that she may be pregnant. How exciting it would be for a foal to be born at Cheshire Dogs’ Home! After a blood test by the vet, it was determined that she does in fact have Cushings disease which will add a further expense to Bea’s up keep as she will need to be given medication for the rest of her life to ensure that her dopamine levels are maintained. Many people have offered to help to Bea and if you would like to find out how you could help her, please contact Cheshire Dogs Home or pop down and see her. Please consider filling out the application to sponsor Bea for the year for just £15. Send your completed form to Cheshire Dogs’ Home, 225 Knutsford Road, Grappenhall, Warrington WA4 3JZ with your £15 donation. As a valued sponsor of Bea, you will receive a key ring and a certificate of sponsorship in the post with a folder. More importantly you will have helped a once neglected little pony have the life any animal deserves. Introducing Bea N O R T H E R N TA I L S S U M M E R 2 0 1 6 1 7
