Stars come out for Blossom Lounge opening

TV stars Kym Marsh and Jamie Lomas helped celebrate the official opening of the Blossom Lounge at North Manchester General Hospital today.

The Lounge will provide breast cancer patients and their families with pleasant and comfortable surroundings in which to discuss treatments and receive counselling support, away from the usual clinical areas.

It will also be used to fit patients with their prosthesis following breast cancer surgery.

Kym, who plays Corrie’s Michelle Connor, said: “It’s great to see such a positive facility opening up for breast cancer patients here. I’m sure it will make a big difference to the quality of future care.”

Jamie, who recently left Hollyoaks after three years of playing bad boy Warren Fox, added: “We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

The Lounge has been funded by the Blossom Appeal, an independent charity dedicated to enhancing the breast care unit at the hospital.

Breast Care Nurse Specialist Frances Rosenberg explained: “It’s the little things which can make all the difference during a cancer patient’s journey. Patients don’t want to feel like they’re in a hospital when they’re having counselling and things like softer furnishings, more mellow lighting and flowers can all help them to relax.”

The Blossom Appeal has raised over £200,000 since it began fundraising in 2000.  For further information, go to: www.blossomappeal.co.uk.
