Go Walkies event commemorates dogs lost in fire On the 24th of May this year dogs and humans alike flocked to Debdale Park in Gorton where Manchester Dogs Home hosted their first public event after the fire that devastated the home last year. The aim of the event was to remember the dogs which lost their lives, 59 in total, and also to help everyone involved move forward in a positive direction. After a heartfelt welcoming speech from the manager of the dog’s home, the dogs were poignantly remembered by the release of 59 orange balloons by members of staff accompanied by a chorus of woofs and barks from the canine crowd. The main event of the day – a sponsored dog walk then began with lots of eager pooches wanting to explore the park and make new friends. In addition to the walk there was live music from The Instigators, a local Manchester band. There were plenty of stalls for people to browse including a cake stall catering for both dogs and humans, a craft stall and a tombola to name a few. Many of our canine companions also put their best paw forward in the dog show which had classes throughout the day and a best in show finale where prizes donated by local businesses were handed out. Of course all of our furry friends were winners on the day and received a goody bag with a rosette and a bag of treats. THANKS TO EMMA FINCH FOR ALL THESE FANTASTIC PHOTOS!
