Northern Tails - Sept 16

1pm: We open up to the public. I usually work down at the temporary adoption block and have members of the public coming to look around for a new family member between 1-5pm. But I also have all the other dogs to look after too. For example any dogs that need to gain weight will get another feed around 1pm. As well as spot cleaning of kennels while I am on the go, play with dogs in the off-lead area and deal with more voluntary dog walkers. 3pm: 3pm is when the dogs are given their afternoon meals and medication. Not all dogs are given the same type of food, so this can often take a lot of time. For example, some of our older residents cannot manage the harder dry food, so they may need their biscuits soaked or to be fed on meat. Then all the paperwork has to be signed off for each dog as well as again checking all the kennels are clean and tidy. If it isn’t particularly busy at the home that day I will often do adoption write ups on dogs for the website or take dogs out for some extra attention and play. Our staff and volunteers at Manchester Dogs’ Home all make sure that we fulfil our mission to #GIVEADOGACHANCE. You can help too by visiting our website and seeing our dogs up for adoption: www.dogshome.net 4.30pm: It is time to get the dogs settled and ready for bed. All the kennels are quickly cleaned and freshened up, fresh water is given and the cosy night-time beds are put down. Some of our underweight residents will get their last extra meal of the day at about 5pm. The dogs get into a routine and by the time I leave they are usually sprawled out on their beds! I always make sure to give them all a chew treat to take to bed with them before I do my final checks for the day.
